How are weather closure decisions made????
After receiving input from families (Thank you for that!) a possible delay will be listed on the TV, website, school messenger and the radio stations the night before. This is the process for making the decision:
First we talk with the Virginia Department of Highways at 4:00 a.m. and hour by hour temperatures are checked on the internet. The day before the maintenance department reports the condition of the parking lots and sidewalks at the schools. If there are extreme temperatures, then we check with the transportation manager about any bus issues. Our buses are parked outdoors.
The decision is made by 5:00 a.m. and I put it on TV, another staff member calls the radio, our technology person puts it on the website and our Power School person does the School Messenger. We could move everything back a half hour so the School Messenger goes out at 4:30 a.m. if that would be beneficial. If you aren't receiving School Messenger calls, please contact the school that your son or daughter attends.
