CLARAVILLE—As the school year begins to wind down, the Northumberland school board took the opportunity at Monday’s board meeting to recognize several individuals for their dedication and efforts in programs that benefitted the division and students.

Gifted and talented program director Shauna McCranie introduced the board to many of her students who have won local and regional awards and will compete in national programs, including representatives from the SeaPerch Team competing at Georgia Tech May 19 and state winners in Future Problem Solvers/Scenario Writers competing at the University of Wisconsin in June.

District 1 school board member Dana O’Bier presented Jacque Jett a gift for her organization of the After Prom party April 29.

Special education paraprofessional Tammy Wilkins was commended by superintendent Dr. Holly Wargo for the high school’s agricultural and greenhouse programs which have brought state recognition to the school.

Middle school counselor and Beta Club sponsor Krista Hundley Sisk reported on the 63 members of the Jr. Beta program and their community work in such annual events as the Christmas Village at Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, Smith Point Sea Rescue’s oyster roast and the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Strawberry Festival.

“They lead by serving others,” said Sisk of the Beta Club members.
